Being born in Germany in 1953, I grew up in a small town at the river Rhine somewhere
between Cologne and Frankfurt. After graduation from high school, I had to join the
army for the mandatory 15 months and then studied mechanical engineering,
graduating in 1981 in the field of automotive engineering.
My first job was at a automotive technical company, developing methods for forensic
traffic accident analysis. At the end of 1983 an opportunity to move to East Asia was too
good to reject, and I spend the major part of my professional life in Tokyo, then Seoul,
Singapore, then back in Japan (Osaka and Yokohama).
The main activities were testing of cars and car components to international standards,
as well as auditing of quality management systems, mainly in the automotive industry.
My main hobbies were travelling, photography, tennis and scuba diving.
In 2010 I moved with my Japanese wife to Melbourne, becoming a freelancer in 2013
and semi-retiring from my work in 2017. In 2020, due to COVID which restricted
travelling too much, I fully retired, enjoying my life at the Gold Coast where we moved to
in 2018.
Having been active in the automotive field for all my professional life it was almost
natural to become a member of a car club, in addition to several other social groups.
